My Views

Increasing childcare availability and reducing its cost

My top priorities if elected would include addressing the childcare crisis.  It's imperative to remember that without stabilized and effective childcare approaches, we would not have the workforce that we currently have. High costs and lack of available childcare keep many parents from being able to return to the workforce; primarily mothers. Let’s work to make sure our childcare workers are paid higher wages!

Addressing out of control property taxes

High property taxes are a direct result from overspending and poor budget planning.  We have to take a look at our exemption process and see where we could make some constructive changes. However, the complete elimination of property taxes is not the answer. No matter which way you look at the situation, reality is that the money will come from somewhere else.

Ensuring adequate funding for mental health services

Mental health challenges and issues can negatively and directly impact our workforce, the well-being of our children, increases homelessness, and puts our law enforcement officers at further risk on the job. If we have a healthier community, I am confident we would see the unemployment rate decrease and more families having the ability to transition to becoming homeowners.

Protecting Women's Healthcare and Reproductive Rights

I am proud to be a mother by choice and a mother for choice. I have three daughters and I worry about their future as we continue to watch restrictions on women's bodies only increase and become much more aggressive. As a woman, it is very difficult for me to see women not being able to make their own healthcare choices, especially in cases like rape or incest.

Universal Free School Lunches

It is proven that children do better in school and feel secure when they are able to eat just like their peers. When kids are confronted about school meals, many do not understand what is going on. I have personally witnessed shaming when it comes to school lunches and it is truly heart-breaking. We need more empathy when it comes to our students.

Bringing balance and fresh perspectives

We are seeing historic levels of division in our political system and it’s only getting worse. We need leaders who are going to lead with empathy, reason, and logic, not with resentment.  My motivation is to bring people together, not give into the great divide.  I would bring fresh and new perspectives that will keep the issues at hand as the priority, not political parties. North Dakota deserves leadership that can work together and put their constituents first.
